○ Incheon Port’s container volume in November achieved the highest ever with 270,000 TEU. After recording 265,000 TEU in September, it has again replaced the highest monthly container volume. 

 

○ On the 29th, Incheon Port Authority (www.icpa.or.kr) stated that the container volume processed in Incheon Port in November was 270,056 TEU which was a 6.9% increase from 252,521 TEU in the same month of the previous year. The cumulative until November is 2 million 770, 572 TEU, an increase rate of 14.7%. 

 

○ According to Incheon Port Authority (IPA), the import freight out of the total container volume in November took up 50.3% with 135,936 TEU, showing a 5.4% (6,966 TEU) increase from the same month in the previous year. Export increased by 8.6% (10,392 TEU) from the same month in the previous year with 131,294 TEU. As for transshipment and coastal cargo volume, it recorded 2,277 TEU and 549 TEU respectively. 

 

Per country, volume to China (166,142 TEU) increased by 5.4% (8,476 TEU) thanks to the increase in the import of empty container and volume to Vietnam (24,753 TEU) increased by 11.5% (2,555 TEU) compared to the same month of the previous year with an increase rate of 28.3% in the import.  

 

○ In addition, the volume to India which handled 1,930 TEU in the same month of the previous year recorded 3,797 TEU, a 96.7% increase due to the leading export of automobiles and parts, maintaining a firm growth rate. 

 

○ Looking at the number of container sea routes of Incheon Port, it increased by 11 with 49 this year compared to 38 in 2013 and the container volume of Incheon Port is increasing by 41.0% with expected 3.04 million TEU this year compared to 2.16 TEU 5 years ago in 2013. In the future, with the increase in the container volume, the number of regular sea routes is expected to increase in a mutual virtuous cycle. 

 

○ Kim Jong Gil, the director of Logistics Strategy Office in IPA stated that “the highest monthly container volume of Incheon Port is expected to reach 290,000 TEU next year” and that “we will strive to meet the various needs of import and export shippers using Incheon Port by enhancing the infrastructure of port services such as expanding the ocean lines and developing hinterland and others”.
