○ Incheon North Port will be transformed into high value added logistics cluster.

 

○ The Incheon Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries announced on the 13th that the construction to establish additional port hinterland in the northern aspect of the North Port will begin on the 17th.

 

○ Total budget of 20.2 Billion Won will be infused into this project for establishment of port hinterland with total area of 170,000m2, to be completed by March 2020.

 

○ The Incheon Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries and the Incheon Port Authority will contribute 5 Billion Won and 15.2 Billion Won, respectively, to this project.

 

○ The Incheon Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries and the Incheon Port Authority signed joint venture agreement in December last year for this project to establish port hinterland on the northern aspect of Incheon North Port.

 

○ In accordance with the agreement, the Incheon Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries will be in charge of ground improvement for 80,000m2and 1set of electrical facilities while the Incheon Port Authority will be in charge of ground improvement for 30,000m2, 1.3km of road construction and 1set of water supply and sewage system.

 

○ Although the land for the project was designated at around the same time of designation of the hinterland on the southern aspect, this project could not be initiated due to the delay in the construction of ‘South Cheongra IC link road’, etc.

 

○ With the x-confirmation of opening of the road at the end of the year following various twists and turns, this project will now be pursued in earnest.

 

○ ‘Basic and execution design service’ was executed from March last year for the commencement of this project with the completion of discussions on the environmental impact assessment in June.

○ Currently, there is a port terminal with 17 berths for processing mostly bulk cargos including timber and steel and iron materials.

 

○ Mr. Kim, Jong Gil, the director of planning of the Incheon Port Authority, stated that, “we will put efforts to assertively entice relevant distribution and manufacture companied to move into the port hinterland of the North Port to be established additionally through cooperation with the Incheon Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries,” and that, “we expect excellent outcome with 30 companies expressing intent to move into the hinterland of North Harbor as the results of survey of the demands this year by the Incheon Port Authority.”

 

○ A personnel of the Incheon Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries asserted that, “supply of the additional port hinterland will resolve the phenomenon of inadequate logistics land in the Incheon North Port and assist stable operation of the Port as well as making substantial contributions towards securing of additional quantity of goods transported through the Incheon Port,” and that, “we will assertively support activation of North Port and creation of job opportunities for the local community.”
