○ On June 21, Incheon Port Authority (www.icpa.or.kr, president: Jun-wook Choi) announced that the keynote speech and session topic have been finalized for The 3rd Incheon International Ocean Forum 2022 (IIOF 2022) co-hosted by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries and Incheon Metropolitan City and co-managed by IPA and Yonhap News. The forum will be held at the grand ballroom of Songdo Convensia from July 1st to July 22nd.

 

○ According to IPA, best-selling author and historian Yuval Noah Harari has been selected as the keynote speaker. Yuval Harari has published Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind, Homo Deus, and 21 Lessons for the 21st Century, which are collectively referred to as the Yuval Noah Harari Collection 3-Book Set. Renowned as a young mind in the field of humanities, Harai will be giving a keynote speech online on mankind’s course of action regarding the climate crisis and inequalities following technological advancement and a sustainable plan for co-existence between the ocean and mankind.

 

○ The session topic for this year’s forum has also been finalized: [(Marine logistics) Changes in global trading environment and port industry, (Marine energy) Impact of growth in renewable energy on marine industry and subsequent advancement plans, (Port network) ESG status of major ports, (Marine tourism) Plans for the vitalization of the marine tourism industry in the post-COVID-19 era, (Marine humanities) The significance and role of Incheon Port in celebration of 1,650 years of Incheon Port operation and 30 years of China-South Korea diplomatic relations].

 

○ There will be other various events as well, such as the Stack and Stack Exhibition by upcycling designer Haneul Kim.

 

○ Incheon International Ocean Forum is the largest marine business forum held in the capital district for the purpose of sharing business trends and visions for the marine industry and building a network between participants under the theme The World Calls, The Ocean Waves.

 

○ Pre-registration is available until July 15 on the official forum website (http://www.iiof.kr). Applicants can choose between offline and online participation. Presentation materials and souvenirs will be provided for offline participants. The entire event will be broadcasted live on the official YouTube channel and website of Incheon International Ocean Forum.

 

○ IPA President Jun-wook Choi stated, “This forum will be a business landscape where people come to discuss how to build a sustainable marine economy,” adding “We hope that this forum helps with establishing future development strategies for the marine industry.”

 

○ 1,635 government affiliates, entrepreneurs, and experts from 19 countries participated in the 2nd Incheon International Ocean Forum held last year.
