○ Incheon Port, the Republic of Korea’s metropolitan gateway, is striving vigorously to become the port that will grab the attention of the world.

○ The Incheon Port has opened and is now running the Incheon New Port, followed by their busy development of the New International Passenger Terminal and Cruise Terminal.

○ When the hinterland development is successfully completed, the Incheon Port will be the Yellow sea region’s main logistics hub marked as the ‘North East Asia’s Representative Mecca of marine tourism’- as it starts to draw even more ships, cargoes, and tourists from all over the world.

○ Incheon Port was the 57th World Container Port that treated 2.68 Million TEU in 2016, but it grew to 3.05 Million TEU a year- stepping 8 ranks up to the 49th World Container Port in 2017.

○ Specifically, their goal is set on the 30th World Container Port that will treat up to 4 Million TEU/year before 2025. For this purpose, expansion plan including new dock facilities, a port hinterland supply, and the construction of the New International Passenger Terminal and Cruise Terminal was implemented - bringing their full effort for the timely delivery of the port infrastructures.

○ After the opening of phase 1-1 container pier, the Incheon New Port is accelerating its pace in order to pre-emptively respond to the consistent increase in number of vessel entry and container throughput, by starting the designing process for phase 1-2 container pier development by the second half of this year and commencing construction by 2019 in order to open by the second half of 2025.

○ The Incheon New Port plans to increase its container throughput capacity up to 4.17 Million TEU by 2025 by head-starting the construction of 1,000m section during phase 1-2.

○ The New International Passenger Terminal is expanding near Songdo (Incheon), and its GFA (Gross Floor Area) is 66,805m2, which is bigger than the size of a 9 football field. It is comparable to the area size of the existing Incheon Port Passenger Terminal 1 (GFA 25,587m2) and 2 (GFA 11,256m2) area combined and doubled.

○ The five ‘belt’ shaped roof structure expresses the Five Ocean’s wave, and it’s planned to have a rooftop park to provide a pleasant working environment to workers and passengers. In such way, the New International Passenger Terminal brings expectation to become a new landmark of Incheon Port.

○ Moreover, the New International Passenger Terminal’s neighboring land - Golden Harbor - contribute towards the development of tourist attraction and regional economic development by creating an international marine tourism cultural park.

○ The Golden Harbor (427,823m2) made up of a waterfront with a size comparable to the Nami-Island; and will welcome leisure facilities such as a shopping complex and resort, etc. Being adjacent to the sea, it’s expected to have an attracting role for the citizens of Incheon as well as domestic and foreign tourists to come and soak into the charm of the ocean life.

○ They’re also busy erecting the Incheon Port Cruise Terminal in the adjacent area. Not only does the cruise tourism industry grows at a fast pace of 9.5% each year, it is also one of the Top 10 Tourism Industry Of The Future selected by the World Trade Organization (WTO) as a high value-added industry with a great economic dispatch and employment growth.

○ Along the pace of such global trend, the Incheon Port Authority is dealing with the inconvenience of the Incheon Port passengers caused by the formerly lacking cruise infrastructure, as well as investing the amount of 20.2 Billion Won into the expansion of Incheon Port Cruise Terminal, to smoothen the cruise passenger traffic.

○ When this Incheon Port Cruise Terminal, with a land of 565,500m2, 8 times more of a football field, and a 2nd story building with a GFA of 7,364m2 is completed by October this year, it will have the ability to accommodate even the super-sized, 225,000-ton cruise ship.
