Incheon Port Authority (www.icpa.or.kr, President Choi Jun-wook) announced on the 4th that despite the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, it has managed to attract 3 world cruises that are scheduled to enter the port in 2022 through a steady continuation of ‘untact’ marketing strategies. through steady non-face-to-face marketing despite the COVID-19 crisis it has attracted 3 world cruises scheduled to enter ports in 2022. 

 

A total of 3 ships are included: the Hanseatic Inspiration of Hapag-Lloyd, the MS Regatta of Oceania Cruises, and the MS Artania of Phoenix Reisen. 

 

In particular, The attraction of the 15,726-ton Hanseatic Inspiration of Germany’s Hapag-Lloyd, which is scheduled to enter the port in May, is especially meaningful due to the fact that it is scheduled to operate Incheon Port as its home port, not as a port of call. If Incheon Port starts functioning as a home port, cruise passengers from all over the world would be starting their travels from the Port of Incheon, after flying in from ICN. the attraction of the 15,726-ton Hanseatic Inspiration of Germany's Hapag-Lloyd, scheduled to enter the port in May, holds significance in that Incheon Port will operate not as a port of call but as a home port. IPA has continued to carry on its marketing strategies such as ‘untact video call conferences’, and ‘online promotion centers’ during the post-COVID era by making good use of the network they have accumulated over the years. At the 2nd Incheon International Ocean Forum which took place in last July, IPA strove to promote marine tourism in relation to the development of the cruise-tour industry by discussing the outlooks of cruise tourism in the midst of the ‘With Corona’ period with key personnels from the cruise industry throughout the world) IPA has continued marketing activities for the post-COVID era, such as non-face-to-face video conferences and operation of online PR centers by actively utilizing the network it has accumulated over the years. At the 2nd Incheon International Ocean Forum in July last year, IPA discussed the global outlook for cruise tourism in the era of living with COVID, featuring major cruise industry insiders from both home and abroad. 

 

Kim Jong-gil, vice president of IPA’s operation division, said, “Despite a situation where cruise entry has been banned from February 2020 in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, we will spare no efforts to attract cruise ships in the future. We will be fully prepared for the smooth operation of our home port when the cruise service resumes."
