Incheon New Port has opened with 8,000TEU capacity

- G6 Alliance starts operating a weekly service from June 1st.

[ June. 2nd, 2015 ] A new and charming alternative for logistics companies, Incheon New Port opened on 1st of June. Incheon New Port had been under construction since 2007, and finally started providing port service this month. Now Incheon New Port has all the possibilities to become the hub-port of logistics in East Asia.

Incheon Port Authority (www.icpa.or.kr  CEO Yoo Chang Keun) announced that from 1st June, Incheon New Port, located at west-south part of Song-Do International district and has 1.6km linear length of quay with 8,000TEU capacity, has started providing commercial service.

The first vessel that entered Incheon New Port is the Chinese flag container ship, MINGYUE(明月), which has berthed Sunkwang New Container Terminal(SNCT) at 11 am 1st June. MINGYUE, which provides shipping services between Dandong and Incheon twice a week, unloaded 132 TEU of marine products, loaded 18 TEU of cargo, and departed back to Dandong at the same day 6 pm.

Incheon New Port’s eye-catching event is that the largest vessel that Incheon port has ever encountered, 6,800TEU capacity of ‘Hyundai-Tokyo’ container ship will enter the port at 6pm on June 7th. Hyundai-Tokyo is operated in association with CC1(Central China 1) route of G6 alliance. It will provide a weekly service within CC1 route that calls at LA, Oakland, Qingdao, and Shanghai port.

Until now, Incheon port had merely played a role as the gateway of Seoul metropolitan district. However, with the launch of Incheon New Port, it is expected that Incheon port will become a global hub-port that connects China and the US.

In particular, when using Incheon New Port, the sailing route becomes 4km shorter than using the existing container terminals at Inner Port or South Port. Thus using Incheon New Port is economically efficient in terms of time and cost and therefore has potential to attract shippers, and shipping lines.
