[June. 20th, 2017. Incheon, Korea]

With the inclusion of Tacoma Port in the ocean route, PS1 (Pacific South1) service that connects Incheon Port and USA, cargo from the Northern American region can now arrive at Incheon Port without transshipment.

On the 20th, Incheon Port Authority (www.icpa.or.kr, CEO B. H Nam) revealed that Tacoma Port located in Washington State, USA had been added as a port of call in American Sea Route PS1 service provided by Incheon Port. With this, the port of call in America under the PS1 service has increased from the existing 1 place at LA Port (Long Beach) to 2 places.

According to Incheon Port Authority (IPA), container shipment that departs Tacoma Port would arrive Every Tuesday evening at Incheon New Port’s Sun Kwang New Port Container Terminal (SNCT) and it takes 14 days from Tacoma Port to Incheon Port. HYUNDAI TACOMA which is calling at Tacoma Port for the first time after the adjustment of PS1 service sea route is bound to leave Tacoma Port on the 28th carrying scrap, hay and others and is expected to arrive at Incheon New Port on 11th next month.

According to IPA, when importing livestock products or fresh fruits through PS1 service, quarantine inspection and custom clearance would be completed on the following day of arrival (Wednesday) to begin shipment of cargo into metropolitan regions. Following such, if the products are displayed in the retail market such as supermarkets, the said livestock products and fresh fruits would be available on the tables of consumers in the weekend when purchase and consumption are concentrated. IPA plans to focus on the promotion of PS1 service advantages through marketing targeting shippers so that cargo and fresh food could reach the customers faster.

An official at IPA stated that “Tacoma Port has the second biggest import freight handling amount out of all the ports in America” and that “As Tacoma Port’s main export cargo to Korea include feed, timber and scrap which are items that are handled in large amounts in Incheon Port as well, I hope that the cargo from Tacoma Port to Incheon Port would increase as we have the ability and experience to handle these items professionally”.
