[March. 18^th, 2016. Incheon, Korea] , HanJin Incheon Container Terminal (HJIT), the second container terminal of Incheon New Port in Korea opened on 18^th March 2016.

Incheon Port Authority (www.icpa.or.kr President Yoo Chang-Keun) announced that HJIT started its operation as HANJIN MEXICO of HanJin Shipping called at HJIT at 2:00pm on 18^th March. The HANJIN MEXICO, which was the first-calling-vessel at HIJT, provides KPI(Korea-Philippines-Indonesia) service which covers Korea(IncheonㆍBusan), China, Singapore, and Indonesia starting from Manila in Philippines on a weekly basis. Up to now, HJIT has opened 4 routes connecting China and Southeast Asia with the biggest industrial producing belt & consuming area at the same time in South Korea.

HJIT has been preparing its new opening since the completion of phase Ⅰ-1 superstructure work which included installing cranes, operating buildings, and other operating facilities on the quay and yards at Incheon New Port container terminal(the linear quay length is 800m and the size of terminal is 478,571㎡).

HJIT is currently equipped with 5 RMQCs(Rail Mounted Quayside Crane) which can handle 22 container rows, container terminal yard of 7 rows, and 14 ARMGCs(Automated Rail Mount Gantry Crane) which enable to handle 5-tiered and 9 rows. In addition, including operating building which performs monitoring and handling, 11 operating facilities, operating system, and terminal operation equipments are also fully equipped.

The opening of HJIT means that the construction project of Incheon New Port finished its great history started from 2007, and the actual operating business of Incheon New Port will be started. With SunKwang New Container Terminal(SNCT) which opened in June last year, HJIT is one of the two prominent terminals of Incheon New Port.

Before construction of Incheon New Port, Incheon Port used to be the port ranked in the 60th in the world accommodating maximum 4,000 TEU class vessels. However, it is expected to be different from now on. According to Vision 2025 IPA set, IPA has an ambitious plan to accomplish 4.5M TEU container handling volume in 2025 and to jump up to the 30th port in the world by boosting up Incheon New Port.

In particular, due to the opening of HJIT, large container vessels loading 12,000TEU at once can enter and depart through Incheon Port. Since last year, Incheon New Port has been providing an transpacific line service between Seoul Metropolitan Area and North America as IPA attracted 6800TEU class vessel fleet(HMM) to SNCT.

Yoo Chang Keun, president of IPA, said that “The opening of HanJin Incheon Container Terminal represents that the era of Incheon New Port will begin in earnest." and "We will achieve our annual target, 2.5M TEU by vitalizing Incheon New Port and HJIT for sure."
